Custom Feed Service's History
1968
Custom Feed Services was founded by Leland Smith in 1968. Leland had worked for several feed companies and in 1968 decided to start his own company. For 2 years our premix was manufactured in Council Bluffs, IA. Leland would drive to Council Bluffs with his pickup and load up 2 tons of premix. He would drop off some to customers on the way back to Norfolk and what he did not deliver was stacked in his garage.
1970
In 1970, a small building was leased and with a 1,000lb mixer and a hand held Fischbein sewing machine, Custom Feeds started manufacturing premixes. Leland’s son, Larry, did most of the mixing and bagging after class was out in high school and on Saturdays.
1975
In 1975 we built a plant at our current location just north of town. God has blessed and through the years we have had several additions and expansions to our plant.
1983
Custom Feed Services was recognized by Inc. Magazine in 1983 as one of America’s Top 500 fastest growing companies.
2018
In 2018, Custom Feed Services became a member of the safe food safe feed community and became HACCP compliant, which is a preventive management system that identifies and controls potential food safety hazards. Custom Feed Services is proud to mention that the USDA has rated us an organic facility. To be certified Organic in the United States, operations must adhere to the standards of the USDA National Organic Program. These standards ensure all food products labels organic are indeed true to such claim.
